BA23 Enclosure Maintenance

This document is the "BA23 Enclosure Maintenance" guide, published by Digital Equipment Corporation in September 1980.

It serves as a comprehensive reference, installation, and maintenance manual for the BA23 enclosure, which is designed for use with MicroPDP-11 and MicroVAX systems. The primary audience for this document is DIGITAL Field Service personnel and qualified self-maintenance customers.

The guide is organized into three main chapters and two appendices:

• Chapter 1: BA23 Enclosure Description provides an overview of the system, detailing its components such as mass storage device areas, the control panel (4- or 6-button versions), the backplane assembly (including signal distribution and power supply), I/O panel, and fans, along with configuration guidelines.
• Chapter 2: Installation covers site preparation considerations (dimensions, acoustics, operating environment, static electricity, heat dissipation, and electrical requirements) and provides step-by-step procedures for installing the BA23 enclosure in pedestal, tabletop, and rack-mount configurations, including connecting external devices and setting system controls.
• Chapter 3: FRU Removal and Replacement outlines procedures for removing and replacing various field replaceable units (FRUs) within the enclosure, such as modules, control panels, mass storage devices (diskette, tape, and fixed-disk drives), CPU I/O inserts, backplane assembly components, power supplies, and front/rear fans, and the MicroVAX Battery Backup Unit.
• Appendices include system interconnection pinouts and a list of related documentation.
