VAX-11/730 Hardware User's Guide

This document is the VAX-11/730 Hardware User's Guide (EK-1173-UG-003), published by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in 1982-1983.

It serves as a general reference for console operators, providing basic hardware operating information and customer care procedures for the VAX-11/730 computer system. The guide is divided into three main sections:

1. Introduction: An overview of the VAX-11/730 system configurations (System 1, 2, and SBB) and their associated peripheral hardware, along with a list of related documentation.
2. Operation: Detailed descriptions of CPU controls and indicators, procedures for booting and operating the VAX/VMS operating system, console commands, and the setup and operation of various peripheral devices, including LA120 and LA100 console terminals, RL02, R80, RA60, RA80, and RA81 disk drives, and TU58 and TU80 magnetic tape drives.
3. User Maintenance Procedures: Guidelines and precautions for performing routine user-level maintenance, such as system power management, changing ribbons, running self-tests on terminals, cleaning tape and disk drives, and understanding fault identification codes for peripheral devices.
