The VAX was a family of 32-bit minicomputers and workstations developed by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). Its core innovation was the Virtual Address eXtension (VAX) architecture, providing a large virtual memory space. Running the VMS operating system, these systems were widely adopted in scientific, engineering, and business applications from the late 1970s through the 1990s.
