Software Package and Services

This document outlines the Digital Equipment Corporation's (DEC) software package, services, and hardware requirements for the PDP-12 computer system, revised in June 1972.

The PDP-12 Software Package comprises LINCtapes, paper tapes, and documentation, categorized into "user," "demo," and "maintenance" software. "User" software includes applications, system, and utility programs. "Demo" software features the DEMO-12 Monitor and modified LINC-8 programs. "Maintenance" software consists of hardware diagnostics. The LINCtapes are LAP6-DIAL, Version 2 tapes, supporting both 4K (DIAL-V2) and 8K+ (DIAL-MS) systems, with a tool called GENASYS for configuration. Each program is supported by detailed documentation.

DEC provides a range of software services, including a two-week PDP-12 Programming Course with hands-on training (enrollment included with each PDP-12 purchase). Software support services are offered globally and include:

• Installation Support: For Category 1 software products.
• Advisory Support: Free consultation for 90 days post-installation.
• Additional Software Support: Fee-based assistance for application programs, extended maintenance, and customer software systems.
• Remedial Support Services: For Category 1 software, addressing software performance reports and emergency failures.
• Software Distribution Center: For ordering new/revised programs, manuals, and updates.
• Software Information Service: Publishes monthly "Digital Software News" with updates and technical information.
• DECUS (Digital Equipment Computer User's Society): Offers a user's library, newsletter (DECUSCOPE), and technical symposia.

The document also lists the contents of the Basic PDP-12 Kit, provides a comprehensive price list for various software products (categorized by distribution and support levels), and describes numerous user programs. These programs cover a wide array of functionalities, including operating systems (LAP6-DIAL, OS/12), data acquisition and analysis (ADTAPE/ADCON, CATACAL, FFTD, MIDAS/MSORT, MASH, SIGAVG/SINPRE), programming languages (FOCAL4K, FOCAL-12, FORCOM/FORSYS, RTPS FORTRAN IV), utilities (PIP, TED, CREF12, FRED/MILDRED, MARK12, PATCH, QANDA, DISPLAY), and system support (L8SIM, NMRSIM, PRTC12-F).

Finally, an appendix details the required and supported hardware configurations (DIAL-MS, 8K Core Memory, KW12 Clock, Disk, F.P.P.) for each listed program.
