AN-039 Remote Management of CHARON-VAX

Many CHARON-VAX system managers are not located close to their CHARON-VAX host system but
yet they are able to manage their CHARON-VAX systems remotely.
At first this seems impossible as CHARON is protected in such a way that it resists starting and will
stop and display "Error 38" that means "Terminal Server / Citrix Winframe found." This message
appears when you try to start the emulator with a remote desktop connection.

Solution
To overcome this, login to the windows host locally first, then you can take the system over with a
Remote desktop connection. However if you reboot the system you will need to login to the windows
host first. If you need to manage the pc remotely use VNC instead or use the /console option with the
remote desktop.
