CHARON-VAX application note AN-004 Using real disks with CHARON-VAX under WNT & W2000 Author: Software Resources International Date: 29-Aug-2000 You can assign a complete host system disk to the emulated MicroVAX by specifying its name in the CHARON-VAX configuration file: SET <device> FILE[<unit>] = “<real device name>” Note that in the Windows operating system the physical disk must not contain any file system known to the operating system itself. Otherwise the drive will not be available for use. If a disk is too big, the size of the portion that will be used by CHARON-VAX can be explicitly specified in the configuration file. Example for an RZ90 disk: LOAD RQDX3 UDA SET UDA FILE[1]="\\.\PhysicalDrive1" SET UDA DISK_SIZE[1]=311200. To use the disk under CHARON-VAX connect it to the IDE or SCSI bus of your computer and run the “Disk Administrator” utility. It may ask you whether you want it to write a signature on the new disk – answer “No”. In the main window of the utility note the number of the connected disk and specify it in the CHARON-VAX configuration file. Start CHARON-VAX, load the VMS system and initialize the disk with the “INIT” command. For further information: Software Resources International S.A. P.O.
