The TOPS—20 Software Notebooks contain all user
documentation pertaining to the TOPS-20 operating
system.

One TOPS—20 Software Notebook set, including one year
of updates to that set, is included with each basic

TOPS—20 software package. Customers can order additional Notebook sets and renew their update service by
contracting their sales representative. The Software Notebook set, including one year of updates, has the order
number QT018—KZ. The update service, to be renewed
annually after the first year, has the order number
QT018-3Z.

sequential number starting with 01. TOPS-20 Notebook Update 22 (dated September 1984)

READ FIRST BEFORE PROCEEDING

This update includes 18 new 2% inch binders in addition to new and changed TOPS-20

documentation. Do not proceed with this update if you have received an incorrect package.

With this update, you will be transferring the contents of the old binders to the new binders and
updating manuals within the individual binders. When you transfer a manual, make sure you also

transfer the associated divider and any updates to that manual. We will be directing you in converting
and updating one binder before moving to another binder.

To be successful in revising your set, we encourage you to carefully read and follow the instructions
as given. Revising your set will take a couple of hours and adequate table space to work with several

binders at a time. Although executing the instructions is time consuming and slightly complicated, the
result will be worth the time spent.

READ FIRST BEFORE PROCEEDING

You will be adding a new binder between the existing NOTEBOOK 2 and the existing NOTEBOOK 3. This will
cause all the notebook numbers starting with NOTEBOOK 3 to be increased by one. The first instruction in this
update will be to insert the new binder and to replace the set of spine inserts, even though the updating of the
contents of each binder will not be complete until you insert the Update Notice with the number AD-J020A-08.
It is important that you update your TOPS-20 Software Notebooks in the order governed by the number of the
Update Notice; that is, insert Update Notice AD-J020A-03 before you insert Update Notice AD-JO20A-04. The

instructions in each update assume that you have inserted the updated spine inserts. We also recommend that

you take the time to insert all updates at one sitting.

SPINE INSERTS

Replace the spine insert for Notebook 1 with the new one included in this update.
Replace the spine insert for Notebook 2 with the revised one included in this update.
Insert the new spine insert for Notebook 3 into the new binder. Both of these are included in this update.
Replace all subsequent spine inserts with the revised ones included in this update. Note that the numbers of
the binders increase by one as you complete this step. Upon completion, your notebook set will contain 15
binders numbered 1 to 15.

NOTEBOOK 2

1. Replace the existing TOPS-20 Commands Reference Manual with the revised one (AA-5115B8-TM) included in this update.

2. Remove and set aside both the divider labeled EDIT Reference Manual and the manual of the same name.
These will be placed in Notebook 3.

3. Replace the existing Batch Reference Manual with the revised one (AA-H374A-TK) included in this update.
NOTEBOOK 3

1. Insert both the divider labeled EDIT Reference Manual and the manual of the same name (these were
removed from Notebook 2) into Notebook 3.

2. Insert both the divider labeled TV Editor Manual and the manual of the same name (AA-H181A-TM)

immediately after the EDIT Reference Manual. Both of these are included in this update.
3. Insert both the divider labeled User Utilities Guide and the manual of the same name (AA-D850A-TM)
immediately after the TV Editor Manual. Both of these are included in this update.
