This document is a guide for upgrading a DIGITAL Personal Workstation from an x86 system to an Alpha Enclosure. It congratulates the customer on their purchase and directs them to another document (EK-ALMIA-UI) for detailed instructions.
The upgrade process involves seven key steps:
- Backup Data: Back up all user applications and data, then turn off and unplug the system.
- Remove Cables: Disconnect all external cables (keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc.).
- Transfer PCI Options: Remove all PCI options from the old enclosure and reinstall them in the new one.
- Transfer Disk Drives: Remove all disk drives from the old enclosure and reinstall them in the new one.
- Connect New System: Install external cables onto the new system.
- Install OS: Power on the new system and install Windows NT version 4.0 (provided with the upgrade), referencing the EK-ALMIA-UI for instructions.
- Return Components: Return specific old components (chassis, CPU/riser cards, 32MB SIMM, CD-ROM, floppy drive, and power supply) to DIGITAL in functional working order to receive credit.
Additionally, it suggests installing DIGITAL FX!32 to facilitate the use of x86 applications. The document is copyrighted by Digital Equipment Corporation in 1997.
