DEMO 12 Monitor System

User's Guide

Order Number: DEC-12-UDEMA-A-D

This document serves as a user's guide for the PDP-12 DEMO12 Monitor System, originally published in 1970 and updated in February 1973. It provides comprehensive instructions on operating the system, from loading and starting DEMO12 to customizing its display messages and modifying program frames using the DIAL (Display Interactive Assembly Language) system and PIP (Peripheral Interchange Program).

The guide is divided into two main sections detailing various programs available on the DEMO12 LINCtape. The first section describes demonstration programs controlled by the DEMO12 Monitor, which include applications for data acquisition, reduction, manipulation, and presentation (e.g., A-DTST, DATA12, MAGSPY, FRQANA), interactive simulations (WAVES, B.BALL, SPCWAR), artistic and educational displays (KALEID, DRAW12, ECHASK, DAYCOM), and utility programs (STPWCH, CLOCK). These programs often leverage console switches, A/D knobs, and Teletype commands for user interaction.

The second section outlines additional utility programs loaded and controlled via DIAL, such as MARK12 for LINCtape formatting, PIP for data transfer, L8SIM for LINC-8 instruction simulation, CONVERT for program translation, and FOCAL4K/FOCAL8K for numerical problem-solving, along with a DIAL Demonstration sequence. An appendix also covers the KW12 Real Time Clock Subroutine Setup Package, detailing its components and usage for timing and event measurement.
