The DEC WANcontroller 220 (DSB32) is a two-line synchronous communications controller designed for Digital's VAXBI systems. It enables direct connection of VAXBI environments to public and private data networks, as well as local hard-wired links, facilitating computer-to-computer and computer-to-network communications with high performance and reliability.

Powered by a 32-bit communications microprocessor, the DSB32 supports up to two independent synchronous data channels, allowing different protocols like SDLC, HDLC, and DDCMP to run simultaneously. It supports speeds up to 64K bps per line concurrently, with single-line operation reaching up to 192K bps for HDLC/SDLC protocols. The controller also enables communication with X.25, DECnet, and IBM networks, leveraging Digital's standard layered software.

Operating in full-duplex mode with modem control, the DSB32 consists of a module and a cabinet kit, requiring separate adapter and extension cables for various interface standards. It is supported by VAX/VMS Operating System Version 5.0 or higher and is compliant with a wide range of industry interface standards including EIA-232-D, X.25, and V.35.
