VAX 4000 BA440-Based Systems CPU Conversion Guide

This document is the VAX 4000 BA440-Based Systems CPU Conversion Guide, published in June 1994 by Digital Equipment Corporation.

It provides detailed instructions for converting various older VAX 4000 models (such as -300, -400, -500, -500A, -505A, -600, -600A, and -700A) to systems based on the L4005-XX or L4006-XX CPUs.

The guide is intended for Digital services personnel and licensed self-maintenance customers, covering:

• System Requirements and Related Upgrades: Detailing necessary OpenVMS versions and backplane revisions, and memory module upgrades.
• Kit Inventory: A list of all components included in the CPU conversion kit.

• Mandatory Module Return Procedure: A critical section outlining the process for returning the old CPU and memory modules to Digital Equipment Corporation, along with associated forms (Digital Services Worksheet, Installation Receipts, Returned Material Checklist) that must be completed to avoid penalty charges. Customers are also responsible for performing a software backup before the conversion.
