This document is an update to the "Installing and Using the VT420 Video Terminal with PC Terminal Mode" guide, published in January 1993 by Digital Equipment Corporation.
Its primary purpose is to provide detailed information on how to use French Canadian, Greek, Hebrew, and Turkish keyboards and character sets with the VT420 terminal.
The update covers:
- New Keyboard Dialects: Instructions on selecting and configuring these new ANSI and PC keyboard layouts.
- Character Set Support: Details on the added 8-bit and PC character sets (User-preferred Supplemental Sets - UPSS) for Greek, Hebrew, and Turkish, as well as 7-bit national replacement character (NRC) sets.
- Setup and Configuration: How to navigate the terminal's set-up screens (Set-Up Directory, Display Set-Up, General Set-Up) to select keyboard dialects, character sets, and adjust features like cursor direction and copy/paste direction (especially relevant for right-to-left languages like Hebrew).
- Typing Additional Characters: Methods for entering special characters using Alt key sequences (for PC keyboards) and compose sequences (for ANSI keyboards) specific to Greek, Hebrew, and Turkish.
