DECprint Supervisor (DCPS) for OpenVMS, Version 1.0C

This document introduces the DECprint Supervisor (DCPS) for OpenVMS, Version 1.0C, a layered software product by Digital designed to enhance PostScript printing efficiency and effectiveness on OpenVMS systems (VAX and Alpha AXP platforms).

DCPS is offered in three modular products:

1. DCPS-Base: Included with an OpenVMS license, it drives Digital PostScript printers, supports PostScript and DEC PPL3 (ANSI) formats, and provides centralized control over basic print settings (duplex, orientation, tray selection, accounting, error routing).
2. DCPS-Open (Optional): Enables support for selected non-Digital PostScript printers, such as Hewlett-Packard LaserJets and Apple LaserWriters.
3. DCPS-Plus (Optional): Offers advanced features like automatic data type detection, page layout specifications (e.g., multiple pages per sheet, page range printing), comprehensive device control modules, and automatic translation from various printer languages (e.g., HP PCL, IBM Proprinter, ReGIS, Tektronix).

Purchasing Version 1.0C automatically includes an update to Version 1.1, which adds support for more Digital and third-party printers, image printing on PrintServer printers, PostScript Level 2 image compression, TCP/IP interconnects, AppleTalk access, and native PCL interpreters for specific printers.
