Instruction Test Part I

Order Number: MAINDEC-9A-D01A-D

This document details "Instruction Test Part I," a diagnostic program designed for the PDP-9, PDP-7, and PDP-4 computer systems. Its primary purpose is to test all operate group instructions and specific memory reference instructions, including LAC (Load Accumulator), TAD (Two's Complement Add), ADD (Add), SAD (Subtract and Skip if Difference is Zero), and XOR (Exclusive OR).

The program requires a minimum of 8K core storage and is loaded using either HRI tape or an HS paper tape reader. Instructions for setting control switches and specifying starting/restart addresses are provided. Errors detected during testing trigger individual halts, and a reference symbol table lists the addresses for these error halts. An OSR instruction can be used to quickly verify if the program passes. The test has an execution time of 5 milliseconds per pass and no stated restrictions. The majority of the document comprises detailed program listings and test cases for the various instruction sets, alongside their expected outcomes and specific error messages.
