DECagent 90 User Information

This document is the "DECagent 90 User Information" manual (Order Number: EK-DENMA-UI. A01), published by Digital Equipment Corporation in December 1992.

It serves as a comprehensive guide for installing, configuring, operating, and troubleshooting the DECagent 90 module.

The DECagent 90 is an Ethernet network management agent designed for IEEE 802.3 CSMA/CD networks. It functions as a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) proxy agent, accepting SNMP messages on behalf of client modules (like DECserver 90L and DECbridge 90) and relaying responses to the Network Operations Center (NOC). It supports protocols such as ARP, IP, UDP, SNMP, and BootP.

Key features of the DECagent 90 include:

• Flexible Deployment: Can be used as a standalone unit (with its own power supply) or integrated into a DEChub 90 Ethernet backplane.
• Firmware: Does not require downline loading at power-up but can be downline loaded for firmware upgrades using the MOP protocol.
• Management: Directly manageable through SNMP and provides an out-of-band RS-232 console port.
• Data Persistence: Stores Management Information Base (MIB) settings in battery-backed RAM.
• Hardware: It is a self-contained module powered by a Motorola 68000 CPU, equipped with a ThinWire port and an asynchronous RS-232 port.

The manual is organized into five chapters and four appendices, covering:
