CIPCA Adapter Release Notes

This document, the CIPCA Adapter Release Notes from April 1996, provides important information for Digital customer service engineers and self-maintenance customers regarding the CIPCA PCI-to-CI adapter.

Key points include:

• OpenVMS Support: CIPCA is supported by OpenVMS V6.2-1H2 and subsequent V6.2 hardware releases, but not OpenVMS V7.0 (though future V7.x releases will be supported).
• Configuration Restrictions (Link Module A01): Specific node address restrictions apply based on CI cluster size (16 or 32) to prevent arbitration timeouts, CI bad path errors, and VC closures, especially if node address 0 is used.
• HSJ Synchronous Arbitration: When CIPCAs are present with HSJs, it's recommended to enable synchronous arbitration on HSJs by using the command CLI> SET THIS CI_ARB = SYNCH and then rebooting the HSJ.
• AlphaServer 2000/2100 Systems: The show device console command can hang the system if issued after a Ctrl/P from VMS or a VMS shutdown; an init command should be issued first.
• AlphaServer 8200/8400 Systems: A missing or broken TX-A connector on the BNCIA cable can prevent the console from finding disk devices, indicated by a "CI PATH FAILURE" error; the cable should be replaced.
