Command Console is a graphical user interface (GUI) and remote management program designed for StorageWorks controllers. It enables monitoring, configuration, and troubleshooting of a large number of storage subsystems through various connection methods.
The system comprises two main modules:
- Command Console Client: A 32-bit GUI application for Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 and Windows 95 systems.
- Command Console Agent: A host agent program that facilitates network connectivity, available for Windows NT 3.51 and Digital UNIX host systems.
Key Features and Capabilities:
- Connectivity: Supports direct serial port, host-bus SCSI (virtual terminal), and TCP/IP network connections. The network connection can manage up to 4096 concurrent subsystem connections, allowing remote management over LAN/WAN/Internet.
- Management: Provides graphical views of controllers and their physical/logical storage elements, easy configuration, and high/low-level status monitoring using colored icons.
- Fault Management: Includes remote fault notification via numeric pagers (with subsystem ID and fault category codes), and automatic event logging for Windows NT systems.
- System Tools: Offers a controller firmware download facility and user/feature access protection with three levels of control.
- RAID Support: Supports graphical configuration for RAID 0 (disk striping), RAID 1 (disk mirroring), RAID 10/0+1 (striped mirroring), and RAID 3/5 (striped parity RAID).
System Requirements & Compatibility:
- Client Minimums: Intel 486/66 MHz processor, 16 MB RAM, 10 MB free disk space, CD-ROM drive, and Windows NT 3.51 or Windows 95.
- Controller Compatibility: Works with StorageWorks 2 and 6-port controllers running operating firmware Version 3.0 or higher.
- Enclosure Compatibility: Provides graphical representations for StorageWorks 7 and 24-device pedestal enclosures and supports data center cabinets.
Command Console is distributed on CD-ROM and is a licensed product, often bundled with StorageWorks controller products.
