VAX 7000 Advanced Troubleshooting

This document, "VAX 7000 Advanced Troubleshooting (Order Number EK–7001A–TS.001)", is a technical manual published by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). It is intended for Digital customer service engineers and self-maintenance customers to provide comprehensive system troubleshooting information for the VAX 7000.

The manual is structured into three main chapters and two appendices:

• Chapter 1: Troubleshooting During Power-Up focuses on diagnosing and resolving issues that occur when the system powers on, covering components like the AC input box, power regulators, cabinet control logic module, control panel, blower, and XMI Plug-In Unit.
• Chapter 2: System Self-Test explains how to interpret the results of the system's self-tests, both from the console display (for processor, memory, and power-up exerciser failures) and from the status LEDs on various modules (processors, IOP, DWLMA, and Clock Cards). It also details how to determine specific failing test numbers.
• Chapter 3: Diagnostics describes the use of console commands to run various diagnostics, including ROM-Based Diagnostics for XMI devices and DUP-Based Diagnostics for SI and DSSI devices.
• Appendix A: Parse Trees provides detailed guides for interpreting machine check and error interrupts, including hard and soft error interrupts for KA7AA, IOP, and DWLMA modules.
• Appendix B: Power Requirements and Guidelines offers information on power system requirements, methods for obtaining power regulator status, and guidelines for identifying power converter failures in LSB modules.
