BASIC-11/RT-11, Version 2

This document describes BASIC-11/RT-11, Version 2, a high-level, conversational, incremental, interactive, interpretive compiler designed to run under the RT-11 operating system. Developed at Dartmouth College, BASIC-11/RT-11 is designed for ease of use for new programmers while offering comprehensive system resource control and reducing application development time.

Key features include various program manipulation commands, support for real, integer, double precision, and string data types, immediate mode for debugging, sequential data storage via the RT-11 file system, disk virtual arrays, program chaining with COMMON, a CALL facility for assembly language subroutines, and formatted output using PRINT USING.

Minimum hardware requirements include any valid RT-11 system configuration, with at least 32K bytes of memory recommended. Optional hardware support extends to various mass storage, unit record, and terminal devices compatible with RT-11, along with specific arithmetic and instruction set elements like KE11-B, KE11-E, FP11, and KE11-F/KEV11. The prerequisite software is RT-11 Operating System, Version 3 or later, with optional support for BASIC/RT-11 Extensions.

The update policy includes free software updates for one year post-installation (media charge applies), with subsequent updates available per prevailing DIGITAL policies. Ordering information details single-use licenses for one CPU, with options for binaries, documentation, support services, sources, listings, and updates, distributed on various media types like magnetic tape, disk cartridges, and floppies.

Software support is categorized into A, B, and C. Category A offers installation services, 90-day post-installation defect support (including temporary corrections), and one-year support for reported defects via a Maintenance Periodical, including updates (media charge applies). Category B provides the same one-year defect support as Category A, while Category C software is provided "as is," with any available services charged at current rates.
