RT801, RT803, RT805 Remote Terminals

User's Guide

Order Number: EK-RT80X-UG-001

This user's guide provides comprehensive information for the Digital Equipment Corporation's Factory Data Management Remote Terminals: RT801, RT803, and RT805. It covers general information, detailed installation procedures, operating instructions, and maintenance guidelines for these peripheral devices.

The RT80x terminals are designed to interface operator-generated data with a Distributed Plant Management (DPM) system, typically communicating via a DECdataway or EIA RS-232-C interface. Each terminal features a self-contained power supply and robust, industrial enclosures suitable for factory environments.

Specifically:

  • RT801 Time and Attendance Station is wall-mounted and suited for payroll, labor management, and access control, featuring a 4-character time display and a Type 5 badge reader.
  • RT803 Basic Work Station is designed for tasks like material tracking, inventory control, and shop floor data entry. It includes a combination Type 3 badge/card/ticket reader, a 32-character alphanumeric display, a 12-position keypad, nine guidance lights, a transaction switch, and five function keys.
  • RT805 Area Work Station is a general-purpose, transaction-oriented terminal that incorporates all RT803 features, plus additional transaction keys, guidance lights, and a Type 5 card/badge reader, allowing it to function as both a work station and a time/attendance station. It can also be configured with optional digital I/O or serial line interface modules for keyboards/printers.

All terminals utilize a common microcontroller module running ROM-resident diagnostics and support user-written tasks under RSX11-M on the DPM host. Key common physical features include an alarm, a three-position keyswitch (NORMAL, MAINT, SUPVR), and forced-convection cooling. The document also includes extensive technical specifications, connection diagrams, and details on internal diagnostic tests and field-replaceable units for maintenance. Appendices describe various badge and card types used with the terminals.
