Appendix C Physical Device Names

Order Number: XX-61DAD-81

This document provides a comprehensive list of physical device names (mnemonics) and their corresponding Radix-50 equivalence values in octal format. It covers various devices including different types of disks (RC11, RF11, RK11, RP11), DECtape, keyboards, line printers, magtapes, paper tape punch/reader, card readers, system residence devices, and cassette drives.

The document further explains the conventions for device naming and usage:

  • Device mnemonics can be three letters long, with the third letter indicating the presence of multiple controllers (e.g., DTA for DECtape controller "A").
  • The RP11 controller utilizes separate external page addresses for its two devices, DP and DPB, and the .STAT system routine returns the correct device based on the page address used.
  • An octal number can be appended to a device name to identify a specific unit managed by a controller (e.g., DT1 for unit 1 under DECtape control).
  • Finally, it provides the mathematical formula and character value assignments for deriving the Radix-50 equivalence of device mnemonics.
