StorageWorks Single-Ended I/O Module Installation Guide

This document is an installation guide for the DIGITAL StorageWorks Single-Ended I/O Module (model DS-BA35X-MN) in an ultra SCSI RAID system. It provides step-by-step procedures for both removing and installing the I/O module.

Key procedures covered:

1. Turning Off the Subsystem: Before any module removal or installation, the subsystem must be safely shut down. This involves dismounting storage devices, connecting a maintenance terminal, issuing shutdown commands for both primary and redundant controllers, and finally turning off all AC power.
2. Removing an I/O Module: This section is specifically for replacing a module. Steps include loosening mounting screws, pulling the module out, and disconnecting and labeling the left (Cable A) and right (Cable B) cable connectors by loosening their thumb screws and cutting wire ties.
   • Crucial Cautions: The guide strongly emphasizes using ESD (electrostatic discharge) precautions (wrist strap, electrostatic mat, bag for shipment) to protect sensitive electronics. It also warns that removing the I/O module without turning off the subsystem will disconnect the SCSI bus TERMPOWER, leading to corrupted and lost data.
3. Installing an I/O Module: This involves removing the new module from its electrostatic bag, verifying the model, then aligning and connecting Cable A and Cable B, securing them with thumb screws and wire ties. Finally, the module is aligned with enclosure guides, inserted, and its spring-loaded mounting screws are tightened (without overtightening).
4. Turning On the Subsystem: After installation, power is restored by turning on AC power controllers, then resetting and verifying both the primary and redundant controllers from a maintenance terminal to ensure correct operation.
