DECwindows Motif® Version 1.2-3 for OpenVMS provides a graphical user interface (GUI) for both OpenVMS VAX and OpenVMS Alpha operating systems. It is based on the industry-standard OSF/Motif user interface and the X Window System™ Version 11, Release 5 (X11R5) specifications, supporting both Motif and XUI window managers.

The product offers a comprehensive desktop environment with integrated applications such as Session Manager, Window Manager, FileView, DECterm, Bookreader, Calculator, Calendar, Mail, and various others. It also includes the NCSA Mosaic web browser as sample software. Key features include client/server distribution, enabling applications to run on one node and display on another, and interoperability with other X11-compliant systems via network protocols like DECnet and TCP/IP.

For developers, DECwindows Motif provides extensive programming support, including Xlib, X Toolkit (Intrinsics), OSF/Motif 1.2.3 Toolkit (with run-time support for earlier versions and XUI), and Digital's own extensions (DXm, CDA, XDPS). It supports C, Fortran, and Pascal language bindings. The Alpha version includes a Translated Image Environment for running binary-translated VAX applications, and porting tools are available for migrating XUI applications to Motif.

Hardware requirements include various AlphaStation, AlphaServer, VAX, MicroVAX, VAXstation, and VAXserver processors, along with an X11R4 or R5 compliant display server. Minimum memory is 32MB RAM for Alpha systems and 12MB for VAX (16MB recommended). Disk space for installation is approximately 131,000 blocks for Alpha and 71,500 blocks for VAX. Supported operating systems are OpenVMS VAX 5.5-2, 6.0, 6.1 and OpenVMS Alpha 1.5, 6.1.

The product supports multiscreen configurations and VAXcluster environments, is available in multiple language variants, and is distributed on CD-ROM or magnetic tape as a licensed product. It is certified as OSF/Motif Release 1.2.3 validated.
