This document is an installation guide for DEC SoftWindows on the OpenVMS AXP Operating System.

The installation process is broken down into four main steps:

1. Log In: Log into the system account (SYSTEM).
2. Define Source: Define the logical location of the SoftWindows installation kit using the DEFINE PCSI$SOURCE DCL command.
3. Install: Perform the installation using the OpenVMS Polycenter Software Installation utility by running PRODUCT INSTALL SOFTWIN/HELP. The process involves accepting defaults, verifying disk space (requires 38774 to 66545 disk blocks), and then integrating startup commands by executing @SYS$STARTUP:SOFTWIN$STARTUP.COM and adding this command to SYS$MANAGER:SYSTARTUP_VMS.COM.
4. Configure Keyboard: Log out and log back in, then configure the default keyboard type by executing @SOFTWIN$SYSTEM:CONFIGURE and selecting from the provided options (US/UK, French, German for LK401 or PCXAL style keyboards). After this step, SoftWindows runs briefly, loads the keyboard information, and exits, completing the installation.
