This document details the November 2020 release of PHP for VSI OpenVMS IA64, which is based on PHP 5.6.10. This is the final release of PHP 5.6.10 for OpenVMS, though new extensions introduced here will be included in future PHP versions.

The kit is independent of the CSWSPHP software but includes support for MODPHP5 and PHP CGI scripts with CSWS 2.4 (requiring manual configuration).

Key new features in this update include dynamically loadable extensions for VSI DATATRIEVE, Oracle RDB, Mimer, and Redis databases, an OpenVMS distributed lock manager extension, and improved SQLite error handling. The release also comes with numerous other PHP extensions.

System requirements include VSI OpenVMS 8.4-1H1, an ODS-5 disk, and HP TCP/IP Services V5.7-ECO 5. Installation uses a PCSI kit (PRODUCT INSTALL PHP), requiring prior removal of any existing HP CSWS_PHP and subsequent post-installation tasks such as configuring system startup scripts and defining PHP as a foreign command.

Integration with CSWS/Apache involves copying MOD_PHP5.EXE and modifying HTTPD.CONF. Known restrictions include incompatibility with Composer Dependency Manager and the need to manage temporary files generated by MOD_PHP.
