This document describes the Beta Release of PHP 5.6.10 for VSI OpenVMS IA64, an Open Source scripting language specifically ported for web development on the OpenVMS platform.

Key Points:

• Independence & Integration: This PHP kit is independent of HPE's CSWS_PHP but can be integrated with CSWS (Apache HTTPD for OpenVMS) version 2.4 for processing dynamic web pages using MOD_PHP5 or CGI scripts (requiring manual configuration).

• Requirements:

  • VSI OpenVMS 8.4-1H1 (or higher)
  • ODS-5 enabled disk
  • HP TCP/IP Services V5.7 – ECO 5 (for network operations)
  • CSWS 2.4 is required if using MOD_PHP5.

• Installation:

  • Requires manually removing any existing HP CSWS_PHP before installation.
  • Installed via an OpenVMS PCSI kit (VSI-I64VMS-PHP-V0506-10-1.PCSI).
  • Post-installation steps include adding startup/shutdown commands to system scripts (SYSTARTUP_VMS.COM, SYSHUTDWN.COM), defining a PHP foreign command, and optionally customizing PHP.INI.

• CSWS Integration: To use MOD_PHP5 with CSWS 2.4, specific manual steps are necessary: copying MOD_PHP5.EXE to the CSWS modules directory, editing httpd.conf to load the module and define AddType directives, and restarting CSWS.

• Known Problems/Restrictions (Beta):

  • MOD_PHP5 is incompatible with CSWS versions prior to 2.4.
  • All script files must be stream-lf.
  • The Composer Dependency Manager is not yet functional.

• Included Extensions: The port includes the core PHP interpreter and a wide array of dynamically loadable extensions for database client APIs (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, ODBC), XML, compression, web services (SOAP, REST), graphics (GD), and more. Other extensions are statically included in the interpreter.
