DTELDR Load Dump Utility For A PDP-11 From DECsystem-10 Over DTE20 Oct80

This document describes DTELDR, a Load/Dump Utility for PDP-11 systems, operating from a DECsystem-10 over a DTE20 (Data Ten-to-Eleven) interface.

Key functionalities and features include:

• Purpose: Loads programs from the TOPS-10 file system into a PDP-11 front-end processor and dumps front-end memory into a file on the TOPS-10 disk.
• Operation: Runs in user mode under normal timesharing, requiring the user to have specific privileges ([1,2], TRPSET, LOCK) and the TOPS-10 monitor to be assembled with MSGSER.
• Command Format: Utilizes a command-line interface with various optional switches to control its actions.

• File Handling:

  • Default file names for loading are DSK:DTELxy.BIN and for dumping are DSK:DTEDxy.BIN (where x and y denote CPU and DTE numbers).
  • Supports three file formats: Packed Mode, Image Mode, and Diagnostics Mode.

• Switches: A comprehensive set of switches allows users to:

  • Initiate actions (e.g., /DUMP, /RELOAD, /INITIALIZE).
  • Modify actions (e.g., /IMAGE for image format, /NOLOG to turn off error logging, /AUTOMATIC for automatic reloads).
  • Control specific loading procedures with detailed octal values via the /SWITCH option, affecting parameters like boot device, line speed, and retry attempts.

• Execution: Can be run interactively or configured for automatic execution (e.g., at system initialization or for automatic reloads) by placing commands in the OPR.ATO file.

• Error Handling: Provides specific error messages with corresponding corrective actions.
