DMPFILE Program for Preparing an Octal Dump of a User File Jul73

This document describes DMPFIL, a utility program dated July 6, 1973 (Edition 2), designed to prepare printable octal dumps of user files.

Key Functions:

  • Standard File Dump: Generates a printable octal dump of any user file.
  • DECtape Dump (nnnnnnD): Dumps a DECtape block by block, starting at a specified octal block, and includes a directory listing.
  • Disk File Dump (nnnnnnF): Dumps a disk file starting at a specified block (defaulting to 1 if /F is used, or 0 if /T is used).
  • Core Dump from Save File (nnnnnnK): Dumps a save file as a core dump, starting at a specified location.
  • Core Dump from High Segment Save File (nnnnnnH): Dumps a high segment save file as a core dump.
  • Disk Dump with SUPER USETI (nnnnnnS): Dumps the disk starting at a specified octal block using SUPER USETI.
  • Stop Dump (nnnnnnT): Stops the dump at a specified octal block.

Operating Procedures:

  • Assembly: .COMPILE DMPFIL (no assembly options).
  • Running: .R DMPFIL followed by the command line: *<Output file><Input file>/Switches
  • Default Conditions:
    • Output file: LPT:name.LST
    • Input file: DSK:name.ext
    • The same filename is used for input and output by default.
    • The input file is specified if a backarrow (+) or an equal sign (=) is present in the command string.
    • REENTER closes the files.
