This document announces the October 2020 release of OpenLDAP 2.4.53 for OpenVMS I64 and Alpha. OpenLDAP is a free, open-source implementation of the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), providing client, server, utilities, and sample components.

A key update in this release is dynamically linked SSL/TLS support, which requires VSI SSL111 V1.1-1g or later. Other system requirements include OpenVMS Version 8.4-1H1 or higher, a VSI, HPE, or MultiNet TCP/IP stack, and a C compiler for developing extensions. Installation on an ODS-5 enabled file system is recommended.

The software is installed via an OpenVMS PCSI kit using PRODUCT INSTALL LDAP. Post-installation steps are crucial, including adding logical name definitions and, for server operation, the OpenLDAP server startup procedure to system startup/shutdown scripts. Specific system privileges and adjusted quotas are necessary for efficient operation, and the CHANNELCNT system parameter may need an increase for high client loads. While alternative installation locations are possible, they require manual copying of critical scripts.

The OpenVMS port includes all functionality of the upstream OpenLDAP 2.4.53 release. A known problem is that OpenLDAP may not work correctly with IPv6 in some OpenVMS environments.
