This document provides Installation and Release Notes for the Compaq AlphaServer GS80/160/320 System Management Console (SMC) version 3.2, released in April 2001.
The primary update in this version is the Compaq AlphaServer Partition Manager (CAPM), which simplifies system console management, including power-up, diagnostics, and the creation and management of hard and soft partitions. Soft partitions are supported exclusively on hard partitions running the OpenVMS Galaxy operating system. CAPM also improves handling of faulted components and powered-off partitions, and for Tru64 UNIX, requires Java 2 Runtime Environment 1.3 and Plugin 1.2.2.
Key Installation Prerequisite: Version 3.1 of the SMC software must be installed before V3.2, and V3.0 must be installed before V3.1. The V3.2 installation involves downloading the kit from a specified Compaq FTP site and running the SMC-V3.2-SETUP.EXE file.
Important Notes and Cautions for CAPM:
SCM show system commands and console logs are necessary to determine the root cause of the fault. Assigning faulted components to hard partitions can lead to errors.Additionally, the V3.2 update expands eXcursion language support to include Hebrew, German, and French, with new font files installed. The SMC desktop includes a "Documentation" folder containing the main User's Guide and release notes for V3.0, V3.1, and V3.2 in PDF format, with further documentation and updates available on Compaq's FTP site.
