Order Number: XX-8E4E3-8C

This document contains the Release Notes for the AlphaServer DS20L V6.5 Console Firmware, dated June 2003. It outlines significant changes, known anomalies, and the procedures for updating the console and I/O option firmware.

Key updates in this V6.5 release include:

  • A bug fix addressing incompatibility between SRM console V6.4-56 and older SROM versions (prior to v4.7.6).
  • The ability to update KGPSA firmware.
  • New palcode versions for VMS (V1.98-74) and Unix (V1.92-71).
  • The console firmware requires a minimum of Tru64 Unix V5.1A.

Important guidelines for updating firmware are:

  • Always update console firmware before installing or upgrading an operating system.
  • Re-initialize the system after an operating system shutdown and before running the update utility.
  • Do not load firmware that is older than what is currently installed.

Known anomalies include the need to re-initialize the console after reconfiguring fibre channel switches, and certain KGPSA messages that are informational rather than error indications.

The document details the firmware update procedure using the Loadable Firmware Utility (LFU) from the SRM console. Updates can be performed via a network (MOP protocol) or from a CD. Key LFU commands discussed include update (for console and I/O option firmware) and list (to display firmware revisions). Firmware is available for download from www.compaq.com/support/.
