760908 PDP-10 Review Committee

This interoffice memorandum from Ken Olsen, dated September 8, 1976, addresses the PDP-10 Review Committee (Andy Knowles, Larry Portner, and Steve Coleman, with others cc'd).

Olsen acknowledges that the committee initially lacked specific direction for their study of PDP-10 future alternatives but hopes this process will provide insights for future product line reviews. He requests answers to the following questions:

1. Current and planned markets for the PDP-10.
2. The number of machines currently in and planned for each market, and the projected size of the marketing group for each.
3. The strategic reasons for entering specific markets, differentiating between markets where Digital has a competitive advantage and those entered due to existing sales.

Additionally, Olsen asks for a comparison of marketing and engineering cost ratios for the "10/20 area" against the rest of the company and other computer companies.
