This document outlines the Release Notes for HP Availability Manager - Version 3.0-2, released in February 2009. The update introduces a "Combined kit" which now includes both the Data Analyzer and a new Data Server component.
Key Highlights:
WAN Support and New Architecture:
- The Availability Manager can now collect data over a Wide-Area Network (WAN).
- A new Data Server component resides on the same Local-Area Network (LAN) as the monitored OpenVMS systems.
- The Data Analyzer connects to the Data Server over the WAN using IP protocol with Transport Layer Security (TLS) for secure communication.
- The
AVAIL_MAN_ANA kit has been renamed to AVAIL_MAN_ANA_SRVR to reflect the inclusion of the Data Server.
Java and Disk Requirements:
- The Combined kit now uses Java Version 5.0 (1.5).
- For OpenVMS systems, the installation disk for the Data Analyzer or Data Server must be ODS-5 formatted.
- The Combined kit (
AVAIL_MAN_ANA_SRVR) can now be installed on a non-system ODS-5 formatted disk.
- Java 5.0 also brings performance improvements on OpenVMS.
New and Changed Features:
- New Data Columns in the System Overview: PFLTS (page/hard fault rate), PFW/COM (processes in PFW/COM states), DC (Data Collector version/status). The CPU Qs column has also been redefined.
- New and Changed Events related to the column changes (e.g., HIALNR, HICMOQ, HIPFWQ, PRCCMO).
- Data Collection for Logical Disks (LDcn:) is now supported.
- Event Log Enhancements: Separate Event Logs per Data Analyzer connection, new entries for cancelled threshold events, and new
Status, EventKey, and EventID columns.
- New
STATUS and LOG command options for SYS$STARTUP:AMDS$STARTUP to check Data Collector state and configuration.
- Windows Availability Manager Data Analyzer can now use FDDI Network Adapters.
- Lock Contention Filter Page now allows hexadecimal entry.
- New fixes to force disk volumes/shadow set members out of mount verify state (via right-click).
- Data Analyzer now supports MAC address changes on OpenVMS systems, preventing duplicate system entries.
- Default Disk Status Filter Mount Count and I/O Filter Open File Count changed (from 1 to 0 and 3 to 1 respectively) to display more relevant data.
- Data Analyzer/Server startup now checks for necessary logical names.
- Log files now include date and time in their filenames.
- Default Hello Multicast Intervals changed (from 30/90 to 10/15 seconds) for faster discovery on modern networks.
- An option to improve OpenVMS Data Analyzer performance on remote systems via a logical (
AMDS$AM_DISABLE_OFFSCREEN_PIXMAP_SUPPORT).
Problems Corrected:
- Fixed alignment faults in the Data Collector.
- Password encryption is now enabled by default.
- Resolved the issue of Data Analyzer failing to start when DCL Extended Parsing was on.
- Display sizing (tables, sections) has been corrected for better readability.
- Improved Data Analyzer and Lock Contention data collection performance.
- Fixed a Java VM stack dump issue on some I64 systems (due to Java 1.5 upgrade).
- System Uptime Value Wraparound for systems up over 500 days has been fixed.
- The HIHRDP event now correctly uses hard page fault rate.
- Fixed issues with threshold value customization failing with "ERR" status.
- The Single Process Pane now displays correct process types.
Installation and Operation Notes/Restrictions:
- Installation: Requires uninstalling older Data Analyzer kits (especially pre-Version 2.4) before installing the new
AVAIL_MAN_ANA_SRVR Combined kit. On Windows, verify the AMNDIS50.SYS file date. Back up your AVAILMAN.INI file. Kit filenames must be all-caps when installing from ODS-5.
- Operation: Default Data Server port is 9819 (customizable). On Windows, the Data Server picks the first network adapter; users might need to disable the "HP Availability Manager NDIS 5.0 Protocol Driver" on undesired adapters. Firewalls may prompt to unblock the Java 2 Platform SE binary for the Data Server. Reflective Memory by GE Fanuc and Availability Manager cannot run concurrently on the same node. Administrator account is required for Data Analyzer/Server on Windows 2000/XP (future fix).
- Display Notes: Events might sometimes be displayed based on old data. LAN Channel Summary display might be truncated on OpenVMS versions prior to 7.3-1. Older DECwindows Motif versions could lead to XLIB resource exhaustion during long Availability Manager sessions, halting display updates (fixed in Motif 1.3-1).
