The TS11 Subsystem is a low-price, medium-performance, 9-track magnetic tape storage system. It is designed for high data reliability and maintainability, featuring microprocessor-controlled electronics. The system is housed in a standard 19-inch rack-mountable frame and is compatible with various DEC computer systems, specifically PDP-11 and VAX-11 processors, through its M7982 Unibus interface module. It operates at 45 inches per second, records data at 1600 bits per inch (bpi) in phase encoded (PE) ANSI standard format, and supports features like bidirectional reading, automatic error correction, read-after-write checking, and continuous self-diagnostics.
