TS11 Pocket Service Guide

This document is the TS11 POCKET SERVICE GUIDE, published in June 1980 by Digital Equipment Corporation. It is intended for trained service personnel to facilitate the maintenance of the TS11 Subsystem, emphasizing a concise, module-replacement-based maintenance philosophy.

The guide is organized into five main chapters and two appendices:

1. Introduction: Provides a general overview of the TS11 Subsystem, including its assemblies, controls (Operator Panel, Maintenance Panel), indicators, required tools, spares kit list, and applicable documentation. It also introduces system diagnostics.
2. Installation: Details the installation of the M7982 module and provides a general installation checklist.
3. Troubleshooting: Covers internal, initialization, and off-line microdiagnostics, comprehensive error codes (fatal, non-fatal, and off-line test errors) with probable modules, and special techniques for bringing up a "dead" system. It also outlines operating instructions for PDP-11 based diagnostics.
4. Removal and Replacement: Provides step-by-step procedures for removing and replacing various components, such as the BOT/EOT sensor, capstan wheel, fixed reel assembly, snap lock hub assembly, rollers, tension arm, and AC input/line filter box.
5. Adjustments: Offers quick reference adjustment specifications and detailed procedures for various system parameters, including tension, tape path alignment, speed, preamplifier amplitude, threshold, VCO, skew meter calibration, and head skew.

The document also includes Appendix A: Register Summary, detailing the TS11's various registers (Bus Address, Data Buffer, Status, Extended Status), and Appendix B: Troubleshooting Flowchart, to aid in diagnosing issues.
