TM03 Magnetic Tape Formatter User Guide

This document is the User Guide for the Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) TM03 Magnetic Tape Formatter, with editions dating from 1977 to 1979.

The TM03 serves as a crucial interface between DEC Massbus controllers and various 1/2-inch magnetic tape transports (slaves). Its primary function is to format data from PDP-10, PDP-11, and PDP-15 processors into tape frame characters for writing, and to perform the reverse during read operations. It supports both 800 bits/inch NRZI and 1600 bits/inch Phase Encoded (PE) densities, as well as multiple tape speeds (45, 75, or 125 inches/second).
