This document is a reference manual for the Extensible Versatile Editor (EVE), published by Compaq Computer Corporation in April 2001. It primarily details the commands available in EVE, serving as a comprehensive dictionary for all EVE users.
Key aspects covered include:
- Command Dictionary (Chapter 2): An alphabetical listing of all EVE commands, including their formats, parameters, descriptions, and related commands. Examples are provided for many commands. Commands are categorized into Text Editing, Box Editing, Searches, Cursor Movement, General-Purpose Commands, Buffers and Files, Windows and Display, Formatting and Case Changes, Key Definitions, and Customization.
- Command Line Qualifiers (Appendix A): Describes qualifiers for invoking EVE, covering aspects like command files, file creation, debugging, display mode, initialization files, journaling, buffer modification, output file specification, read-only access, recovery from system failure (buffer-change and keystroke journaling), section files, start position, and work files.
- EVE Default Settings (Appendix B): Outlines the default global and buffer-specific settings of EVE, and how to save customized attributes in section or command files.
- EVE and EDT Command Equivalents (Appendix C): Provides a table for users familiar with EDT (a different editor) to understand the equivalent commands and key functions in EVE, aiding in the conversion of EDT customization files.
- EVE$BUILD Module (Appendix D): Explains how to modify EVE or layer other products onto it by compiling DECTPU code to produce new section files, covering special coding conventions for module identifiers, command parsers, initialization, command synonyms, status line fields, and exit/quit handlers.
The manual supersedes a previous version (3.1 on OpenVMS Version 7.2) and is current with DECTPU Version 3.1 on OpenVMS Version 7.3.
