The 570 is a digital magnetic tape transport designed for use with Digital Equipment Corporation's Programmed Data Processors (PDPs 1, 4, 5, 7, and 6), connecting via specific interface and control units.

Key Features:

• Multiplex Interface: Allows time-shared use of the transport by two tape controls, enabling tape pooling, facilitating split/merge operations, and supporting data exchange between computers.
• Electro-Pneumatic Drive: This innovative mechanism uses air pressure against porous capstans to move and stop tape. It significantly reduces tape stress, distortion, and wear (subjecting tape to one-tenth the tensile stress of pinch roller drives). It also ensures faster, stabilized read-write speeds (4 ms max acceleration) and eliminates tape indentation from pinch rollers.
• Ease of Use: Features straight-through threading and an automatic rewind-brake-stop sequence.
