Order Number: XX-F03F6-31

This document is Volume I of the Operator's Manual for the Super Diagnostic System (SUDSY II), designed for the LINC-8 computer by Digital Equipment Corporation. Its primary purpose is to exhaustively test the functioning of the LINC processor subsystem, including its logic, interface, operating modes, interrupt functions, and console.

The system comprises a Monitor program and a series of individual diagnostic tests (23 main tests plus LINCtape diagnostics). The Monitor manages overall operations, such as loading tests, processing errors, and controlling the LINC processor, while also providing housekeeping subroutines. Individual tests cover a wide range of LINC-8 functionalities, including various instruction sets (e.g., JMP, ADD, LDA, MUL, SRO, SET, XSK), memory bank selectors, extended memory addressing and timing, and LINCtape operations.

Operators can run tests individually or in a continuous sequence, using Left and Right Switches to control program flow and error processing options. The system provides detailed diagnostic printouts, error messages, and programmed halts for effective troubleshooting. SUDSY II operates within the first quarter of LINC-8 memory, with specific areas allocated to the Monitor and test programs. The manual includes a summary of operating procedures, detailed descriptions of each test, documentation format, and symbol conventions.
