DECUS Catalog PDP-11 Aug78

This document is the DECUS Program Library PDP-11 Catalog, published in August 1978 by the Digital Equipment Computer Users Society (DECUS).

Purpose: It serves as a comprehensive catalog of software programs available through the DECUS Program Library for PDP-11 and RSTS/E computer systems.

Key Contents:

1. General Information (Section 1): Provides detailed policies and procedures for ordering programs, including:

   • Contact Information: Addresses and phone numbers for DECUS offices in the U.S., Canada, Australia/NZ, and Europe/Middle East.
   • Payment & Pricing: All charges are in U.S. Dollars. Orders require checks, purchase orders, or DECUS coupons; cash is not accepted. Payments are handled separately from Digital Equipment Corporation.
   • Return Policy: Faulty media will be replaced within 60 days, but no refunds are issued, and tapes cannot be returned for credit.
   • Media & Documentation: Explains media/price codes (e.g., paper tape, DECtape, floppy disk, magnetic tape, RK05 disk) and notes that documentation is generally included with programs but can also be ordered separately. DECUS does not accept user-supplied media.
   • Program Distribution: Programs are available as individual items or as complete library segments on magnetic media.
   • Cross-System Index: A separate index (available for a fee) lists programs written in higher-level languages across various DEC systems.

2. Abstracts (Section 2): Contains descriptions of individual programs, categorized into:

   • PDP-11 Abstracts: Covers a wide range of applications, utilities, games, and system tools for PDP-11 systems.
   • RSTS-11 Abstracts: Focuses on programs specifically for the RSTS/E operating system, including educational, business, and recreational software.

3. Standards (Section 3): Lists and describes DIGITAL Software Standards available through DECUS, covering areas like basic keyboard layout, escape sequences, date formats, documentation guidelines, and data representation for information interchange.

4. Indexes (Section 4): Provides various ways to locate programs:

   • Alphabetical Index
   • Category Index (e.g., Monitors, Languages, Utilities, Games, Scientific Applications)
   • Operating System Index
