VAX-11 RSX

This document, titled "VAX-11 RSX Installation Guide and Release Notes, Version 2.0" (August 1985), is intended for system managers and users familiar with both VAX/VMS and RSX-11 operating systems.

It serves two primary purposes:

1. Installation Guide (Section 1): Provides a step-by-step procedure for installing VAX-11 RSX Version 2.0 software on VAX/VMS or MicroVMS Version 4.2 systems. This includes details on identifying the distribution kit, pre-installation setup (e.g., checking system account limits, global sections/pages, disk space), the installation process itself (using VMSINSTAL), and post-installation steps.
2. Release Notes (Sections 3 & 4):
   • VAX-11 RSX Software Release Notes (Section 3): Describes new and modified features for Version 2.0, such as the PDP-11 Instruction Set Emulator, changes to Monitor Console Routine (MCR) commands (e.g., new DELETE/INTRUSION_RECORD, SHOW INTRUSION), changes to Digital Command Language (DCL) commands and qualifiers (e.g., new LINK/RSX11 qualifiers), enhancements to the Indirect Command Processor, and support for new VAX-11 RSX Executive Directives (especially memory management and logical name directives). It also covers enhancements to existing features (like SYSCOMMON System Disks support, performance improvements, terminal driver changes, error reporting) and outlines various software restrictions.
   • RMS-11 Version 2.0 Release Notes (Section 4): Details new features and restrictions for RMS-11 (Record Management Services) applications when built on VAX-11 RSX, including updates to utilities like RMSCNV, RMSBCK, RMSDSP, and RMSRST, and guidelines for reporting problems.

The document also includes Installation and Verification Messages (Section 2), explaining error message formats and providing a summary of common messages with suggested user actions for troubleshooting. An Appendix (A) provides information about the Digital Equipment Computer Users Society (DECUS).
