Pathworks for DOS Installing InfoServer Client Software V1.0 Jul91

Order Number: AV-PH9FB-TH

This document, published in July 1991, provides instructions for installing the PATHWORKS for DOS (InfoServer) CDROM kit, Version 1.0, and subsequently accessing InfoServer CDROM services. It requires an existing PATHWORKS for DOS Version 4.0 or later installation.

Installation Process: The kit, distributed on both 5.25-inch and 3.5-inch diskettes, requires users to first establish a read/write connection from their PC client to the server's PCSAV40 system service (e.g., using USE X: \\server\PCSAV40%account password). Once connected, users insert the first diskette and run the INSTALL program, specifying the connected drive letter as the destination. The INSTALL process renames old files, copies new ones, and updates the system service information file. A caution notes that the STARTNET.BAT file sets the client group code to zero, and any changes require the InfoServer work group to match for successful communication.

Accessing InfoServer CDROM Services: To access CDROM services, the PC client must be reconfigured using the NETSETUP program. Within NETSETUP, users need to enter "Advanced" mode, select LAD and CDEX (MSCDEX) for loading from the Memory Configuration screen, confirm the configuration, choose the desired LAD and CDROM drives, verify server details, and then write these settings to a key diskette. The client PC must then be rebooted using this new key diskette. After rebooting, users can employ the USE command to interact with InfoServer services, such as listing available InfoServer systems (USE /cd /show), finding services on a specific server (USE \\server\cd), and connecting to a service (USE ?: service_name /cd).

Important Notes: The document highlights that CDROMs without a volume label will not automatically mount on the InfoServer system, directing users to consult InfoServer documentation for creating appropriate services. It also addresses a specific prompt in Netsetup V4.0.41 regarding NetWare, advising users to default to "NO" unless NetWare files are installed and NetWare server access is explicitly desired.
