This document describes Digital's RESTART Service, a business continuity and disaster recovery solution.

Its primary purpose is to help businesses quickly resume critical computing operations in the event of a disaster (like fire, flood, or sabotage) that renders their primary IT environment inoperative.

  • "Hot Site" Access: Provides immediate access (within hours of notification) to a fully equipped alternate computing facility with standard VAX and PDP-11 hardware configurations.
  • Rapid Recovery: Enables businesses to process critical applications and minimize the loss of information, time, and resources.
  • 24/7 Availability: Users can utilize the facility and/or backup system round the clock until their business needs are met.
  • Remote Access: Supports remote access via direct dial-up or commercial network.
  • Testing and Support: Includes periodic testing of critical applications to ensure successful recovery and offers technical support staff at the facility during testing and actual recovery phases.
  • Cost-Effective: Offered for a fixed monthly charge, ensuring budgeted access and peace of mind.

RESTART is presented as an integral part of a company's disaster recovery contingency plan and is part of Digital's broader "Recovery Services" suite, which also includes planning assistance and hardware protection ("Recover-all").
