This document describes Digital's VAX System Support Services, designed to address the challenges of complex, dynamic, and interdependent computing environments.

Digital offers "one source" support through two primary plans: DECsystem Support Service and Basic System Support Service. Both plans aim to provide total support for VAX systems (hardware, operating system, and layered software) by:

  • Providing 24/7 telephone support from Digital Customer Support Centers.
  • Offering on-site support during business hours (with options for extended coverage under DECsystem Support).
  • Including preventive maintenance and predictive service using expert system-based monitoring and diagnostic tools.
  • Granting the right-to-use new versions of software.
  • Covering all parts and labor.
  • Providing access to the Digital Software Information Network (DSIN).

The DECsystem Support Service offers a higher level of commitment, including committed on-site response time and continuous effort.

Digital emphasizes its expertise as the original designer and manufacturer of VAX systems, its state-of-the-art service technology, vast worldwide resources (personnel, service sites, and support centers), and its reputation as a top-ranked service vendor. Optional "Value-Added Services" like System Management and Software Update Installation are also available to further optimize system performance.
