DEC-MD30C-ColorScanner

The MD30C Color Scanner is a desktop flatbed scanner designed to quickly and economically transfer hardcopy information, including text, graphics, and photographs, into a computer system. It supports color (16.4 million shades), 8-bit grayscale (256 shades), and bitonal scanning at up to 300 dpi. A full 8.5 x 14 inch page can be scanned in as little as 10 seconds (bitonal), 37 seconds (grayscale), or 130 seconds (color).

The scanner aims to save users time and money by eliminating the need to retype text or manually recreate graphics and photos. It connects easily via SCSI to Digital workstations (VAXstation, DECstation, DECpc) and industry-standard personal computers.

Bundled with DECimage Scan Software (for VMS and RISC ULTRIX) and Image-In Color software (for PCs), it allows users to preview, modify (crop, rotate, magnify), store, and print scanned images. It can convert scanned text into editable files (ASCII, PostScript, DDIF) using OCR software, and integrate images into new or existing documents, supporting Compound Document Architecture (CDA)-compliant applications. The PC software supports common image formats such as TIFF, EPS, PCX, BMP, GIF, and TGA.
