The MD300 VAXimage Scanning Subsystem is a desktop solution designed for capturing hardcopy documents, such as photographs, line drawings, business forms, and engineering sketches, and converting them into digital files. These scanned images become files in Digital's Document Interchange Format (DDIF), making them readily usable within computer-based information systems.

• High-Quality Capture: Accurately reproduces line art, text, and even complex photographs as half-tone images.
• Performance: Scans at six pages per minute, with user-selectable resolutions ranging from 75 to 300 DPI, and offers line art, half-tone, and mixed scanning modes. It supports documents up to 8.5 x 14 inches and includes an automatic 50-sheet document feeder.
• User-Friendly Software: Operates with the VAXimage Scanning Application, a DECwindows-based software providing a common interface with pull-down menus for easy image preview, adjustment, and manipulation (cropping, rotating, scaling).

The system adheres to industry standards, including X.400/X.409 for mail, CCITT Group 3/4 for facsimile, DDIF for image files, and PostScript for output, ensuring broad compatibility for electronic publishing and documentation.
