The VAX Disk Striping Driver for VMS is a software solution designed to provide "supercomputer-class I/O" by overcoming the performance gap between fast CPUs and slower disk subsystems. It achieves this by introducing parallel I/O technology, allowing multiple standard Digital Storage Architecture (DSA) disk drives to be combined into a single, larger, and faster "stripe set" (pseudo-device).
