Privileged Operations

This document details the privileged operations available within the ETOS system, which are restricted to authorized users due to the potential for system corruption or interference with other users.

Key features include:

• Privileged Accounts: Accounts can be designated as privileged by the system manager. Users must execute the PRIV command to activate these privileges.
• The PRIV Command: This command manages three functions: enabling user privileges, adjusting job priority (0 for highest, 7 for lowest), and controlling quantum length (the amount of CPU time before another job is scheduled).

• Memory Commands:

  • PEEK: Allows users to examine physical memory locations.
  • POKE: Allows users to deposit data into physical memory. These commands are noted as dangerous, particularly when modifying the ETOS resident monitor (fields 0 and 1), which can lead to system crashes.

• BROADCAST Command: This command is used to send a text message simultaneously to all initialized terminals connected to the system.
