Instruction Test 1

Order Number: XX-XXXXX-XX

This document outlines the diagnostic program for testing specific instructions on the PDP-8I computer. The program validates the AND, TAD, and OPERATE instructions.

Key details include:

  • Requirements: Requires a PDP-8I equipped with a Teletype and memory locations 0000–4354. The Binary Loader must be present in the last memory page.
  • Procedure: The program is loaded via the standard Binary Loader. Testing is initiated by setting the Switch Register (SR) to 144, loading the address, then setting the SR to 7777 and starting the program.
  • Testing Logic: The program executes sequentially, testing individual operate instructions, rotates, TAD, group 1 and 2 operate instruction combinations, and finally the AND instruction.
  • Error Handling: If the Accumulator (AC) is not 0000 during a test, an error has occurred. Operators can force the program to loop on an error for troubleshooting by modifying the jump instructions.
  • Miscellaneous: The program runs at a speed of 13 loops per second and signals its progress by ringing the Teletype bell after every 128 loops.
