Summary:

DISKLOOK is a utility program designed for the PDP-8 computer with a 32-K DF32 Disk. It allows users to perform the following operations via a Teletype interface:

  • Examination: Users can view the contents of any disk location by entering an address (either as a raw octal number or using the "x.y" block/word format).
  • Alteration: Once a location is opened, users can modify its contents directly.
  • Examine-Next: A shortcut (Line Feed) allows for sequential examination of subsequent memory locations.
  • Searches: The program supports masked searches between two specified disk addresses. Users can search for specific patterns (positive or negative) by defining a search limit, a mask, and the target value. Note that because data is not buffered, searches are performed slowly.
  • System Controls: The program includes commands to terminate searches, exit back to the system monitor (via Ctrl+C), and handle error reporting for illegal inputs or disk hardware issues.

The program resides in memory locations 200 through 777. As a DECUS user-contributed program, it is provided without warranty regarding its accuracy or function.
